This week we were delighted to hear the news that our very own Assistant Principal: Accessibility and Digital Applications, Libby Wilkins has been awarded the prestigious status of Community Champion with The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC).
Jisc’s state their mission is to “improve lives through the digital transformation of education and research.” An area The Mighty Oaks are proud to be making considerable impact.
Their vision is “for the UK to be a world leader in technology for education, research and innovation” – So obviously The Oaks got involved and championed the use of accessible tech within the specialist setting.
The college is a great believer that the vital work we do must not sit purely within the college walls, that our learns should be shared with stakeholders far and wide to enable change to really happen. Libby was nominated for the award in recognition of her dedication to facilitate others to adopt outstanding practise in free assistive/accessible tech. Along with the digital team and our own learners she delivers awareness and training through free workshops, showcase days, tutorials, lunch and learns, spotlights and conference speaking, passing on what works, what does not and what’s new and next.

“We are delighted that this year’s winners are a near even split from further education and higher education, with each nation across the UK represented.
“We have had yet another year of exceptional nominations, with the champions and finalists truly standing out as beacons for their communities. From sharing knowledge, steering community activity, helping others adapt to innovative technologies and solving problems – they do it all.
Our Libby is 1 of just 15 community champions from across the whole of the UK to be awarded this title and adds to her trophy cabinet containing her Microsoft Fellowship.
